1965 Gibson Melody Maker D Double Cut Vintage Guitar Cherry w/ Case

1965 Gibson Melody Maker D Double Cut Vintage Guitar Cherry w/ Case

Up for sale, a 1965 Gibson Melody Maker in perfect working order, complete with a softshell case. Featherweight at 5lbs 4oz, tonewoods include a mahogany body and a one-piece mahogany neck capped with a rosewood fingerboard. The original single coil pickup pair was rewound by the Seymour Duncan Custom Shop, and these pickups offer a raw bell-like treble cut, focused low end and a nice midrange bump. This Melody Maker has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.

Neck Specs:

-Wood: Mahogany
-Shape: Slender C, measuring .800” 1st fret, .605” 12th fret
-Fretboard: Rosewood, dot inlays
-Frets: Medium jumbo, leveled/crowned, faint wear on frets 1-3
-Scale Length: 24 3/4”
-Nut: 1 9/16”
-Tuners: Kluson Deluxe single-line strip
-Serialization: Six-digit stamp dates to ‘65

Body Specs:

-Wood: Mahogany
-Pickups: Single coil x2 (rewound by Duncan Custom Shop)
-Controls: Volume x2, Tone x2
-Harness: 2x Centralab Tone pots date to 9th week of ‘65, CTS Volume pots (replacement)
-Hardware: Wraparound compensated bridge (modern, plain G string compensation)
-Plastics: One-ply black pickguard with “Melody Maker” silkscreen text, reflector cap knobs (modern)

The gloss Cherry nitro lacquer finish exhibits “spiderweb” checking, and the original Maestro Vibrola mounting holes have been doweled and touched-up (more than once). The neck pickup cavity has also been deepened slightly to accommodate a different pickup in the instrument’s past. Cosmetic wear includes various dings, scuffs and small finish chips, largely on the back and body edges. The smooth nitro gloss on the neck profile includes similar checking, with a few minor dings on the profile length that are not distracting to the palm while fretting.

A modern zippered hardshell case is included.
