1966 Fender Jaguar Vintage Offset Guitar Sunburst w/ Big Neck, Case

1966 Fender Jaguar Vintage Offset Guitar Sunburst w/ Big Neck, Case

Up for sale, a 1966 Fender Jaguar in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. This Jaguar is 100% original save for a single potentiometer, sporting an early ‘66 feature set including a bound fingerboard with pearloid dot inlay. Featuring a unique neck carve only briefly seen on the Jaguar model circa 1965-66, this neck is particularly chunky, offering a depth in-line with the most robust ‘50s Teles, with flame figuring extending along the profile.

As the top of the line Fender model when introduced in '62, the Jaguar has a particularly wide range of tones available to the player, while living up to its reputation of being able to out-twang a Tele and deliver sparkling, glassy cleans like no other Fender can. The original pair of gray bobbin single coil pickups feature staggered alnico pole pieces; the bridge pickup has a glassy, punchy sound with a chewy spank, while the neck is quite thick and woody. Each pickup position is very distinct, and these tones are further broadened by the Low Cut two-way toggle and Rhythm Circuit, which make the signal notably brighter and fatter/darker, respectively. This Jaguar weighs 8lbs 6oz, professional setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, where we specialize in Fender Offset instruments, with 11-49 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.

Neck Specs:

-Wood: Flame maple
-Shape: Chunky U, measuring .920” 1st fret, .935” 12th fret
-Fretboard: Rosewood (bound), 7 1/4“ radius, pearloid dot inlay
-Frets: Slender, faint wear on frets 1-2
-Scale Length: 24”
-Nut: 1 5/8”
-Tuners: F-stamped
-Serialization: Six-digit stamp on “F” neck plate
-Factory Markings: Feb, 1966 neck heel stamp, “paint stick” markings

Body Specs:

-Wood: Alder
-Pickups: Gray bobbin single coil x2 (4-4-66 and 4-5-66 pencil dates on bobbins)
-Harness: Lead Circuit Stackpole pot dates to the ‘65, replacement Tone pot (Mouser)
-Hardware: Bridge with threaded saddles, flip-up mute (replacement foam), vibrato with arm, control plates
-Plastics: Tortoise nitrate four-ply pickguard, pointer knobs

The gloss three-tone Sunburst nitro lacquer finish is particularly vibrant and glossy with a thick central ring of red, exhibiting minor buckle rash on the upper bout and some modest dings and small chips, largely on the lower bout. The top presents very cleanly with just a few faint marks. The nitro gloss on the neck profile is smooth and clean, with minor palm wear along the shoulders in the lower registers and a few shallow nicks buffed smooth through play.

The original black tolex hardshell case is included, along with a modern Fender vintage-style strap.
