1962 Gretsch PX 6122 Chet Atkins Country Gentleman Walnut, Figured w/ Dial Up Mutes, Case & CoA

Up for sale, a 1962 Gretsch PX 6122 Chet Atkins Country Gentleman in collector-grade condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case and ā€œGretsch Guarantee.ā€ This extremely well-kept golden age Country Gentleman, the same year as George Harrison’s iconic original 6122, featuring the rarely seen ā€œdial-upā€ pair of string mutes, a Bigsby B6G vibrato, and Grover Imperial tuning machines.

At a cost of $3000+, this Gretsch benefits from the maintenance that a vintage Gretsch should ideally receive (and yet very few do). This Country Gentleman has been fully rebound with vintage-spec multi-ply binding, boasting a professional neck reset and full refret with slender vintage spec fretwire. With no binding rot, an ideal neck angle for decades to come, and frets that play flawlessly up the arrow straight neck, this Country Gentleman plays optimally and presents as few do, with notable flame figuring across the thinline maple body. All work was performed by the luthiers at Portland Fret Works.

For Chet Atkins’ clean, elegant and punchy sounds as well as quintessential George Harrison British Invasion tones, you can't beat the 6122 Country Gentleman. With a 17" fully hollow slim maple body, this Gretsch has an immediate note attack, and a clear, balanced acoustic tone that's enhanced by the midrange character of the Filter'Tron humbuckers. This guitar delivers a full sonic spectrum, with round, bouncy notes on the wound strings and plenty of chewy treble sparkle. This 6122 Country Gentleman weighs 8lbs 6oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 11-49 roundwound strings, low action, and spot-on intonation.

Neck Specs:

-Wood: Maple
-Shape: Slender U, measuring .780ā€ 1st fret, .885ā€ 9th fret

-Frets: Slender, refret, pristine
-Scale Length: 25.5"
-Nut: 1 11/16ā€, bone (replacement), zero fret
-Headstock: Serialized ā€œThe Chet Atkins Country Gentlemanā€ plaque
-Serialization: 48-prefix dates to 1962
-Tuners: Grover Imperials

Body Specs:

-Wood: Maple
-Pickups: FilterTron x2
-Controls: Master Volume (horn), Volume x2, Three-way Tone switch, Three-way pickup selector, Three-way Cutoff switch
-Hardware: Gretsch by Bigsby B6G vibrato, Rocking Bar bridge with ebony base, ā€œGā€ pointer knobs, ā€œDouble Mufflerā€ dial up string mutes (new foam)
-Plastics: One-ply gold pickguard with Chet Atkins signature, snap-on back pad

The gloss Walnut nitro lacquer finish is framed by new three-ply binding, highlighting curly flame figuring in the maple and accented by the painted-on faux F holes. There is very restrained lacquer touch-up at the neck heel and along the binding, and this is a fantastically well-kept example, with a solitary small chip on top adjacent to the bridge and just a couple faint finish scratches on the rest of the body. The nitro gloss on the neck profile is clean and smooth, exhibiting faint palm wear along the shoulders.

The original two-tone gray hardshell case is included, along with the serialized ā€œGretsch Guaranteeā€ warranty card; the case is just as clean as the instrument itself, with all latches functional and the original handle present.
