1997 Fender Jag-Stang JGS-65 Kurt Cobain Signature Offset Guitar Sonic Blue, Japan MIJ

Up for sale, a 1997 Fender Jag-Stang in 100% original condition and in perfect working order, finished in Sonic Blue. From the original "Made in Japan" run of the Jag-Stang, this Fender is a no-nonsense tool perfectly suited to creating both the distorted churn and raw single coil cut heard across Nirvana's catalog.

Famously known for being designed by Kurt Cobain when he took two polaroids of a Mustang and Jaguar and cut them together, the Jag Stang is in-step with the features of both of these classic short scale Fender models, while also satisfying the higher gain pickup needs of Nirvana's chief architect. The guitar weighs 7lbs 4oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 11-49 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.

Neck Specs:

Wood: Maple
Shape: Slender C, measuring .820” 1st fret, .915” 12th fret
Fretboard: Rosewood, 7 1/4" radius
Frets: Slender, leveled/crowned, no wear
Scale Length: 24"
Nut Width: 1 9/16", bone
Tuners: Kluson-style
Serialization: "Made in Japan," V-prefix
Factory Markings: “Designed by Kurt Cobain” decal on peghead

Body Specs:

Wood: Alder
Pickups: ST-Vintage single coil, Dragster humbucker
Controls: Volume, Tone, On/Off/On pickup switch x2
Hardware: Bridge with barrel saddles, Mustang vibrato
Plastics: White pearloid pickguard, pointer knobs

The gloss Sonic Blue finish exhibits a few sticker “tan lines” on the back and vertical checking on top. There are various dings and scuffs from use (most prominent at the lower bout perimeter) and light buckle rash on the bass side of the back. The ambered gloss on the neck profile is smooth to the palm, with several shallow nicks along the profile length. There is also a very short and shallow repaired split at the top headstock edge just beyond the High E tuning machine (only visible on the back).

A modern Fender gigbag is included.
