1996 Gibson Les Paul Standard Flame Top Wine Red One-Piece Body, 100% Original w/ Case

1996 Gibson Les Paul Standard Flame Top Wine Red One-Piece Body, 100% Original w/ Case

Up for sale, a 1996 Gibson Les Paul Standard in 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. This Les Paul hails from an increasingly well-regarded period of Gibson production colloquially known as the “good wood” era, featuring a pair of 490R/498T humbuckers and a gloss Wine Red nitro lacquer finish over an uncommonly figured flame maple top.

Weighing 9lbs 12oz, traditional tonewoods include a carved two-piece maple top, a rare one-piece mahogany body (with exceptionally dynamic grain), and one-piece mahogany neck capped with a bound rosewood fretboard, yielding plenty of natural sustain and lively chime. The 490R and 498T humbuckers have a wide tonal palette, with the Alnico II magnets in the neck pickup offering more warmth and sweetness, while the Alnico V bridge pickup has a lively growl. This Les Paul Standard has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.

Neck Specs:

-Wood: Mahogany
-Shape: 60s-style C, measuring .825” 1st fret, 1.005” 12th fret
-Fretboard: Rosewood, pearloid trapezoid inlay
-Frets: Medium jumbo, leveled/crowned, no wear
-Scale Length: 24 3/4”
-Nut: 1 11/16”
-Tuners: Gibson Deluxe double-line
-Serialization: Eight digit stamp dates to '96

Body Specs:

-Wood: Maple, Mahogany (one-piece)
-Pickups: 490R/498T humbuckers
-Harness: Gibson-branded pots
-Controls: Volume x2, Tone x2, Three-way pickup selector
-Hardware: Nashville bridge, stopbar (chrome-plated)
-Plastics: Gold speed knobs, cream pickup rings, switch surround, amber switch tip
-Factory Markings: Handwritten “LPS” model designation in bridge pickup cavity

The gloss Wine Red nitro lacquer finish is dark and rich, and while not technically a “Plus” top, there is plenty of broad, lively and deep flame figuring extending across the two-piece carved maple cap. There are some dings on the treble side of the top (mostly clustered around the knobs), light buckle wear on the bass side of the back, and a few additional minor nicks and scuffs on the body as a whole. The nitro gloss on the neck profile is smooth and clean.

The original brown Gibson USA hardshell case is included.
