1991 Fender '72 Stratocaster ST72-750SC Natural Yngwie-Spec w/ Scalloped Board, Japan MIJ Fujigen

Up for sale, a 1991 Fender Stratocaster ‘72 vintage reissue model ST72-750SC in excellent condition and in perfect working order. This uncommon “Made in Japan” Strat was crafted at the Fujigen factory during the golden age of Fender Japan production, essentially a progenitor of the Yngwie Malmsteen signature model, sharing a scalloped fretboard and '72-centric features including a large headstock, bullet truss rod, three-bolt F neck plate, and block bridge saddles.

Weighing 8lbs 2oz, tonewoods include an ash body and one-piece maple neck, delivering clear trebles and a round, punchy quality. The trio of Alnico magnet single coils offer a range of traditional Strat tonalities, with chiming sparkle, percussive cut and bell-like sweetness on tap, plus hollow quack at the “in-between” positions on the five-way pickup selector switch. This Stratocaster ST72-750SC has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.

Neck Specs:

-Wood: Maple
-Shape: Slender C, measuring .790” 1st fret, .875” 12th fret
-Fretboard: Maple, scalloped, 250mm (10”) radius
-Frets: Slender, no wear
-Scale Length: 25 1/2”
-Nut: 1.650” (42mm), bone
-Tuners: Gotoh
-Serialization: “Made in Japan,” J-prefix

Body Specs:

-Wood: Ash
-Pickups: ST-Current single coil x3
-Controls: Volume, Tone x2, Five-way pickup selector
-Harness: CTS 250k pots date to the 24th week of 2001 (upgraded)
-Hardware: Synchronized Tremolo with block saddles, jack cup
-Plastics: Three-ply white pickguard, knobs, aged pickup covers

As is sometimes the case with early Fender Japan production (and particularly ‘70s-centric models), the stamps on the neck heel don’t always match the model produced, especially when the same neck was used across multiple models (in this case multiple ST72 designations with scalloped fingerboards). The finish is perfectly mirrored between the neck heel and pocket, reaffirming that these components came together from the factory.

The gloss Natural finish is extremely clean, showing just a tiny bit of checking and a few minor nicks. The gloss on the neck profile is flawless.

A Fender-branded gigbag is included.
