1991 Fender '72 Stratocaster ST72-750SC Candy Apple Red Yngwie-Spec w/ Scalloped Board, Japan MIJ Fujigen

Up for sale, a 1991 Fender Stratocaster ‘72 vintage reissue model ST72-750SC in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, finished in custom color Candy Apple Red. This uncommon “Made in Japan” Strat was crafted at the Fujigen factory during the golden age of Fender Japan production, essentially a progenitor of the Yngwie Malmsteen signature model, sharing a scalloped fretboard and '72-centric features including a large headstock, bullet truss rod, three-bolt F neck plate, and block bridge saddles.

Tonewoods include a basswood body and one-piece maple neck, and this ST72-750SC weighs 7lbs 8oz. The trio of Alnico magnet single coils offer a range of traditional Strat tonalities, with chiming sparkle, percussive cut and bell-like sweetness on tap, plus hollow quack at the “in-between” positions on the five-way pickup selector switch. This ST72-750SC has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.

Neck Specs:

-Wood: Maple
-Shape: Slender C, measuring .810” 1st fret, .910” 12th fret
-Fretboard: Maple, scalloped, dot inlays
-Frets: Slender, faint wear beneath G and B strings on frets 2-7
-Scale Length: 25 1/2”
-Nut: 1.650” (42mm), bone
-Tuners: Gotoh
-Serialization: “Made in Japan,” J-prefix

Body Specs:

-Wood: Basswood
-Pickups: ST-Current single coil x3
-Controls: Volume, Tone x2, Five-way pickup selector
-Harness: Untouched solder, full-size Japanese pots date to March, 1991
-Hardware: Synchronized Tremolo with block saddles, jack cup
-Plastics: Three-ply white pickguard, aged knobs/pickup covers

As is sometimes the case with early Fender Japan production (and particularly ‘70s-centric models), the stamps on the neck heel don’t always match the model produced, especially when the same neck was used across multiple models (in this case multiple ST72 designations with scalloped fingerboards). The finish is perfectly mirrored between the neck heel and pocket, reaffirming that these components came together from the factory.

The gloss Candy Apple Red finish has a bit of sporadic finish checking and one tiny finish small chip at the bass-side edge of the neck pocket, with some minor dings and light finish scratches. The ambered gloss on the neck profile is clean and smooth with only a few shallow marks.

A Fender-branded gigbag is included.
