1988 Fender Stratocaster '72 Vintage Reissue ST72-65 Yngwie-Spec w/ Scalloped Board, Japan MIJ Fujigen

Up for sale, a 1988 Fender Stratocaster ‘72 vintage reissue model ST72-65 in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. This uncommon “Made in Japan” Strat was crafted at the Fujigen factory during the golden age of Fender Japan production, essentially a progenitor of the Yngwie Malmsteen signature model ST72, sharing a scalloped fretboard and '72-centric features including a large headstock, bullet truss rod, three-bolt F neck plate, and block bridge saddles.

Tonewoods include a basswood body and maple neck with a slab rosewood fretboard, and this ST72-65 weighs 8lbs 7oz. The scalloping favors the treble side, with more limited scalloping on the bass-side fretboard edge. The trio of alnico magnet single coils offer plenty of quintessential Strat tonalities, with chiming sparkle, percussive cut and bell-like sweetness on tap, plus hollow quack at the “in-between” positions on the five-way pickup selector switch. This ST72-65 has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.

Neck Specs:

-Wood: Maple
-Shape: Slender C, measuring .805” 1st fret, .890” 12th fret
-Fretboard: Rosewood slab, scalloped
-Frets: Slender, no wear
-Scale Length: 25 1/2”
-Nut: 1 ⅝”, bone
-Tuners: Gotoh
-Serialization: “Made in Japan,” E-prefix
-Factory Markings: Model stamp on neck heel, small blue “65” sticker on peghead indicates model tier and original price („65,000)

Body Specs:

-Wood: Basswood

-Controls: Volume, Tone x2, Five-way pickup selector

The gloss Olympic White exhibits yellowing in the clear coat throughout, with one finish chip down to the color coat on the lower bout perimeter, and some dings and nicks consistent with use. The smooth ambered gloss on the neck profile has a few shallow marks that are not distracting to the palm while fretting.
