1983 Gibson Flying V '67 Spec Vintage Guitar Alpine White w/ Tim Shaw PAFs, Case & Hangtags

Up for sale, a 1983 Gibson Flying V in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case and hangtags. This vintage Flying V is an uncommon ‘67-spec model featuring all-mahogany construction, loaded with a pair of Tim Shaw PAF humbuckers.

The Tim Shaw PAF humbuckers represent Gibson's first attempt at recreating the magic of their late '50s humbucker design. Offered for only a few short years in the '80s, the Shaws are designed with unoriented, rough cast Alnico V magnets, plastic spacers, and poly-coated wire, achieving the harmonic complexity, power, and tonal clarity of the original PAF. Lightweight at 6lbs 12oz, this Flying V has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.

Neck Specs:

-Wood: Mahogany
-Shape: Slender C, measuring .795” 1st fret, .975” 12th fret
-Fretboard: Rosewood, dot inlays
-Frets: Medium jumbo, leveled/crowned, no wear
-Scale Length: 24 3/4”
-Nut: 1 11/16”
-Tuners: Gibson “flower”
-Serialization: Eight-digit stamp dates to ‘83

Body Specs:

-Wood: Mahogany
-Pickups: Tim Shaw PAF humbucker x2
-Controls: Volume x2, Tone, Three-way pickup selector
-Harness: Modern CTS pots and Sprague Orange Drop tone cap (replacement)
-Hardware: ABR-1 bridge, stopbar, modern strap buttons
-Plastics: “Witch hat” knobs, three-ply pickguard

The gloss Alpine White nitro lacquer finish exhibits uniform yellowing and extensive lacquer checking, with a few spots of rack rash on the perimeter inside the body points. Further cosmetic wear is limited to a few small dings and minor finish scratches. The smooth nitro gloss on the neck profile also exhibits “shattered glass” checking and rack rash behind frets 5 and 12, all of which is undetectable to the palm while fretting.

The original brown Gibson USA hardshell case is included, along with the hangtags; the handle has been replaced.
