1978 Gibson ES-335 Vintage Semi-Hollow Guitar Wine Red, T-Tops & 1 11/16" Nut w/ Case

Up for sale, a 1978 Gibson ES-335TD in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. Boasting an uncommon feature set for a late '70s ES model, this 335 has a full 1 11/16" nut width, T Top humbuckers (as opposed to Tarbacks), a factory stoptail, and a traditional control layout eschewing the coil tap seen on most 335s of the era.

Tonally, this Gibson delivers the goods, and the bridge pickup is clear, defined, and plenty warm, with a surprising amount of chime and punch. With both pickups engaged it's easy to dial in an ideal rhythm tone that has just enough percussive cut and roundness, and with the neck pickup singled out, things fatten up nicely, yet stay clear.

With semi-hollowbody maple body construction and a three-piece maple neck, this Gibson has a warm and full-sounding natural acoustic tone with the articulation and snappy note attack of maple augmented by the breadth and sweetness of the semi-hollow body design. This ES-335 weighs 8lbs 10oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with roundwound 11-49 strings, accurate intonation and low action.

Neck Specs:

-Wood: Maple (three-piece)
-Shape: Slender C, measuring .795” 1st fret, .985” 12th fret
-Fretboard: Rosewood, small block inlays
-Frets: Medium jumbo, leveled/crowned, no wear
-Scale Length: 24 3/4”
-Nut: 1 11/16”
-Tuners: Gibson “Flower”
-Serialization: Eight-digit stamp dates to ‘78

Body Specs:

-Wood: Maple
-Pickups: T Top humbucker x2, Pat # baseplates
-Controls: Volume x2, Tone x2, Three-way pickup selector
-Hardware: Nashville bridge, stopbar
-Plastics: Witch hat knobs, four-ply pickguard

The neck has been professionally reset, with sparingly little overspray on the joint and very little disturbance of the original lacquer. Two short maple dowels were added in the neck pickup cavity just above the tenon, touched-up with Wine Red lacquer. As some Norlin-era Gibson necks are set quite shallow, this neck reset corrects for that occurrence, with ideal height on the bridge thumbwheels.

The nitro lacquer Wine Red finish is dark and rich, exhibiting isolated vertical checking on top at the upper bout, with cosmetic wear limited to some minor marks on the back and a handful of faint finish scratches on top. The nitro gloss on the neck profile is smooth and clean.

The original hardshell case is included. All but one of the latches is functional, and the original handle is retained.
