Up for sale, a 1974 Greco S-55 in near-mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with a hardshell case. This rare early âlawsuit eraâ Greco was crafted at the Fujigen factory, drawing significant inspiration from Gibson's ES-175D with features including a fully hollow maple body paired with a spruce top, Maxon âHigh Sensitivityâ humbuckers, a zig-zag trapeze tailpiece, and an ebony fingerboard with split parallelogram inlay. Even the distinctive and rarely seen "Greco"-embossed humbucker covers mirror Gibson's similar offerings circa 1971-72.
The instrument has a warm, broad natural acoustic quality, and the Maxon âHigh Sensitivityâ humbuckers are wound in the vein of the original PAF. Notes are sweet and bold, with great clarity and a touch of growl in the bridge position, and lots of breadth when flipped to the neck position humbucker, perfect for smooth, mellow Jazz tonalities. This S-55 is featherweight at 6lbs 12oz, benefitting from a professional setup here at Mike & Mikeâs Guitar Bar with 11-49 roundwound strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
