1973 Sakazo Nakade No. 1200Y Vintage Classical Guitar, Spruce + Brazilian Rosewood w/ Case

1973 Sakazo Nakade No. 1200Y Vintage Classical Guitar, Spruce + Brazilian Rosewood w/ Case

Up for sale, a 1973 Sakazo Nakade No. 1200Y in near-mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with a hardshell case. Often referred to as the “father of modern Japanese luthiery,” Sakazo Nakade and his brother Rokutaro introduced many classical guitar construction techniques to their native country, among the first ever Japanese luthiers. The brothers Nakade began their careers as violin luthiers under Kinpachi Miyamoto and, in the 1950s, traveled to Spain and spent time under the tutelage of Spanish masters including José Ramírez III, Manuel Hernandez and Victoriano Aguado, (all of whose instruments are widely considered to be some of the finest ever made).

Reflecting the Spanish-style of guitar both in terms of construction and tonal response, this No. 1200Y features traditional Spanish six-fan bracing on the tight-grained spruce top, bookmatched Brazilian rosewood back/sides, and a gloss varnish finish. Tonally, this No. 1200Y is dark, melodious, and rich, with a smooth pluck to the trebles and a terrific breadth to the low end that ensures a very even-tempered overall response, exceptionally clear and articulate. This No. 1200Y weighs 3lbs 10oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with normal tension strings and optimal action.

Neck Specs:

-Wood: Mahogany (ebony stringer)
-Shape: D, measuring .905” 1st fret, .970” 9th fret
-Fretboard: Ebony
-Frets: Slender, light wear on frets 1-3
-Scale Length: 660mm
-Nut: 52mm, bone
-Tuners: Hand-engraved strip

Body Specs:

-Wood: Spruce, Brazilian rosewood (bookmatched)
-Bracing: Spanish-style six-fan
-Bridge: Brazilian rosewood, bone saddle
-String Spacing: 56mm (bridge)
-Marquetry: Ornate rosette, multi-ply purfling, rosewood binding
-Label: Dated 1973, signed by Nakade

Cosmetic wear on the gloss varnish finish is limited to some small dings on top (largely relegated to the lower bout) and a few finish scratches on the back and rims. The neck profile is smooth and clean, with a few shallow marks that are virtually undetectable to the palm while fretting.

The original hardshell case is included.
