1963 Fender Vibrolux Brown Panel Vintage Pre-CBS Tube Amp 1x12 Combo, 6G11-A Circuit w/ Oxford 12L6
Pushing 35 all tube watts through the original Oxford alnico 12L6N speaker, there's plenty to love about the versatility and tone offered by this Fender. The amp has ample clean headroom and the sweet sag of a tube rectifier, and when pushed above 5 on the volume dial, things start to compress slightly and cascade into overdrive with just enough bite. The bias-based tremolo circuit also has a strong, thumping pulse that's notably deeper than later Fender circuits, with a wide range of speeds.
The circuit is extremely original and only serviced as needed to ensure optimal performance. The amp retains all of its original Schumacher transformers, which date between late '61 and early 1963, and all of the original blue molded Ajax tone caps are present in the preamp. The Minimite electrolytics in the preamp and the power supply caps have been replaced with high quality modern equivalents, painstakingly sleeved in their original wrappers. The Stackpole pots are intact, with visible date codes from the 50th week of '62. The original brown two-prong power cable is intact (a three-prong can be installed at the next owner's discretion for no additional cost). The power tubes are a matched pair of Tung Sol small bottle 5881s (6L6GC), with vintage GE 12AX7s in the preamp.
The Oxford 12L6N alnico magnet speaker dates to the 19th week of ‘63, and boasts a very clean frame and modern cone. The stock speaker harness is intact as well, and the original tube chart is present.
The original rough brown tolex and wheat grillcloth are well-kept. Hardware includes a handmade replica leather handle with original handle anchors, chassis straps, and sphinx glides (feet). The faceplate has clean graphics and the original set of dark brown barrel knobs.
