1968 Fender Vibrolux Reverb Drip Edge Vintage Tube Amp 2x10 Black Panel AA864 Circuit w/ Oxford 10L5, Ftsw

Up for sale, a 1968 Fender Vibrolux Reverb in excellent condition, freshly serviced and loaded with the original Oxford 10L5 speaker pair. One of the very first transitional "drip edge/black line" examples, this amp features a set of unique cosmetic touches including aluminum trim framing the grillcloth and thin vertical black lines on the faceplate, denoting a Vibrolux Reverb which retains the same circuitry and components as its Black Panel-era predecessor.

With good reason, the Vibrolux is one of the most desirable Fender models for its ideal size and power, performing well both on stage and in the studio with shimmering Fender cleans and smooth, lightly compressed tube overdrive when pushing the amp towards 10 on the Volume dial. With 35 tube watts through a pair of 10" Oxford 10L5 ceramic magnet speakers, the Vibrolux is the perfect platform for getting the most out of a variety of guitars and stompboxes. With a perceived volume that's loud enough to keep up with an aggressive drummer, the Vibrolux offers smooth note attack and tube rectifier sag, not to mention lush tube Reverb and punchy Tremolo.

The circuit is identical in layout and components to the Black Panel amps produced just a few months earlier in '67, and the original transformers are all intact, manufactured by Fender's primary transformer supplier, Schumacher, with date codes from '68 (and a choke that dates back to '66). The preamp features a bevy of original blue molded Ajax caps, a hallmark of the sweet, musical character of Fender's Black Panel amps, and all of the stock CTS pots are present, with visible date codes from as far back as the 24th week of '66. Freshly serviced, the amp benefits from new smaller electrolytics in the preamp and a recap of the power supply with high quality F&Ts. A three-prong power cable has also been installed. The pair of vintage USA-made 6L6GC power tubes are properly biased, and the preamp tubes are all vintage valves.

The original Oxford 10" 10L5 speakers sound fantastic, with clean black frames and Fender foil stickers on the ceramic magnets. The speaker frames have a date stamp from '68, matching the chassis stamp. The tube chart is fully intact, noting the AA864 circuit.

The original smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth with turquoise stripe is intact. The grill is framed by the distinctive "drip edge" aluminum trim, and the faceplate shows only light wear, with all of the original witch hat knobs. The hardware includes the raised Fender logo with tail, handle caps, chassis straps, corners, and sphinx glides (feet).

A vintage (circa 1970s) two-button Fender footswitch is included.
