1984 Rickenbacker 480 Vintage Solidbody Guitar Jetglo, 100% Original

1984 Rickenbacker 480 Vintage Solidbody Guitar Jetglo, 100% Original

Up for sale, a 1984 Rickenbacker 480 in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. Easily among the more unique chapters of Rickenbacker history, the 480 was born from a desire to create a guitar with the same “Cresting Wave” body as the iconic 4001 bass. Only produced between 1973-84, this final-year 480 is a real frankenstein of an instrument with unique features including bolt-on neck construction, a slimmed-down version of the “Cresting Wave” headstock, Grover Rotomatic tuners, 24 3/4“ scale length, and 24-fret fingerboard, loaded with a pair of “Hi-Gain” pickups.

The maple body and neck result in a certain treble clarity, roundness and chime, providing an ideal platform for the pickup pair. Even though these single coils were dubbed “Hi-Gain” by Rickenbacker, their relatively modest output allows for clear trebles and an overall smooth-yet-punchy quality, delivering quintessential Rickenbacker sparkle and jangle. This 480 weighs 8lbs 3oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 11-49 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.

Neck Specs:

-Wood: Maple
-Shape: Medium U, measuring .860” 1st fret, .885” 12th fret
-Fretboard: Rosewood, 24-fret, gloss-finished, dot inlay
-Frets: Slender, leveled/crowned, faint wear on frets 1-2
-Scale Length: 24 3/4”
-Nut: 1 5/8”
-Tuners: Grover Rotomatics

Body Specs:

-Wood: Maple

-Plastics: One-ply 4001-style “teardrop” pickguard, reflector knobs, “baton” switch tip

The clear coat on the gloss Jetglo has greened slightly, with cosmetic wear limited to one small area of chipped finish on the back edge at the bass-side lower bout, a couple smaller dings around the perimeter, and some finish scratches on the top and back. The gloss on the neck is smooth and clean, with a few tiny marks along the profile.

A gigbag is included.
